What does Wellness mean to you?
Having spent the last 20+ years in the Wellness Market, I feel we may have lost our way slightly. It appears to me that we are all searching for that one golden elixir or holy grail that will make us feel “better”. But it is not as simple as that.
There are so many Influencers and so called Gurus out there all touting their wares to persuade you that they have the one right answer for you. Maybe, I have been somewhat guilty of that in the past and been too evangelical about the benefits of Yoga and how everyone must practice it! I’ve moved on from that in the last few years since adding other strings to my bow, including Sound Healing, Breathwork and the study of many forms of Native Medicine and I really do feel that the emphasis needs to shift to “What does Wellness mean to you?”
It’s a little like my Car Boot Sale Story, when the kids were little and we would go to Woolpit at the crack of dawn on an occasional Sunday with what I considered a load of tat, but without fail there would be people clamouring at the car door looking for china animals or some other treasure to them.
I believe it’s the same with Wellness – we are all looking for practices that allow us to return to our natural sense of balance and ease, the homeostatic state of equilibrium we are meant to live in. What works for one, doesn’t always ring true for another. I teach my classes in a much more off-piste style now, encouraging students to feel what they need on this day and adapt accordingly, weaving in lots of different suggestions and subjects not just yoga poses and I truly believe it is way more powerful and helpful.
So back in May I had a spark of creativity and thought how wonderful it would be to offer a month long exploration of Wellness in a Summer Pop Up. Well, and it came to fruition! Thanks to the lovely Sam Carlisle at Wyken Vineyards we were present in a Wellness Marquee in the private nature reserve next to the lake for the month of August with over 60 (yes 60!) sessions of Classes, Workshops and Talks covering every Wellness topic I could find a local teacher for! There was something for EVERY ONE!
The wonderful Gemma Edwards of Bear Soul Wellbeing was my right hand and Marketing Queen and the GOOD NEWS IS we have the goahead to return next year even bigger and better! We had some wonderful feedback and some great suggestions for how to make it even more special
